Preparation Instructions

Preparation instructions for Making Conversations Work and Creating Productive Conversations II, November 4-7, 2007.

Writing a Personal Dialogue Case

The learning methodology of these programs is based largely on personal dialogue cases written in advance by participants. The quality of your case will have a major impact on your learning. As explained in the "Guidelines for writing a case," we would like you to describe an episode that illustrates a difficult or challenging issue in your work. The best cases focus on moments that raise a key theme or recurring difficulty that you would like to learn to handle more effectively.

We need to receive your case about a week before the workshop so that faculty can prepare. Please email (cases@actiondesign.com) or fax (617-965-7863) your case by Friday, October 26, 2007.

Readings

If you are new to the work of Action Design, please look at our suggestions for introductory reading.

If you have some experience in working with Action Design, you might want to look at two other articles on this web site: "Recipes and Reflective Learning", by Robert Putnam, and "Keeping a Strategic Dialogue Moving," by Diana McLain Smith.

Guests are also invited to use the adjoining fully-equipped health club which offers lap swimming, aerobic and weightlifting equipment, aerobic classes, racquet sports and much more. Bring your sneakers!

Note: Registration and payment for lodging at The Center for Executive Education is handled through Action Design. Payment is due at the time of registration.

If you are arriving on Saturday, November 3, and wish to stay at the Center that night, please contact Action Design to make arrangements. Alternatively you may wish to stay in Boston on Saturday and take a taxi to the Center on Sunday afternoon.

Commuters

Your tuition includes materials, lunches, and breaks but not dinner. You are most welcome to join the overnight guests for dinner, but the Center asks that you pay a fee (about $45) at the time of the meal. Please let on-site Action Design staff know in advance of your request. The seminar will begin at 7:00 PM on November 4.

Attire

Dress will be casual and comfortable. Some people find the rooms a little too cool due to the air conditioning, so please bring a sweater.
